Gregory V. Laton, CW3 (Ret.), age 74, of Cameron, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026.
Born on August 16, 1951, in Charleston, West Virgina.
Gregory dedicated his life to serving others with honor, compassion, and unwavering commitment. He proudly served in the United States Army for 20 years, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 3. During his distinguished military career, he earned numerous awards and decorations, including the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, and the Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Service Star. These honors reflected his dedication to his country and his faithful service during times of national need.
Following his retirement from the Army, Gregory continued his lifelong commitment to caring for others as a Physician Assistant at Fort Bragg. He spent many years providing compassionate care to patients and supporting fellow service members, veterans, and their families.
Gregory was preceded in death by his parents, James and Myrtle Laton, and his brothers, Walter "Mickey" Laton and Steve Laton.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Darlene Laton; his daughters, Karri Lord, Christina Baker, and Rebecca Cucura; his grandchildren, Madalyn Maier, Dylan Maier, Millie Maier, Austyn Baker, Taylor Baker, and Ronan Laton; and his brother, Terry Laton.
Gregory will be remembered for his integrity, sense of duty, and generous heart. Whether serving his country or caring for patient's, he approached every role with humility and dedication.
A proud veteran long after his military retirement, Gregory was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and remained deeply committed to the veteran community.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gregory's memory to the Wounded Warrior Project (Wounded Warrior Project) or Fallen Not Forgotten (fallennotforgotten.org), organizations that support veterans and military families.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." His memory will forever be treasured and his service will never be forgotten.
